Letters To Crushes

Letterstocrushes.com is self-explanatory.

When someone first introduced me to it, I was not moved. I did not feel any giddiness or happiness when I read the first few letters. They were notes- simple sentences describing their feelings for their 'loved one'.

Then I went to their 'best page'. I got hooked.

"I wanna get the guts to ask you to hang out sometime and watch your face bright up as you say yes.

I wanna go on a first date with you and share awkward laughs and awkward silences.

I want us to smile all the way through that first date and after it.

I wanna take you to the aquarium and watch the penguins.

I wanna have a picnic in the park with you and protect you from the bees.

I wanna say how pretty you are when you’re sitting on the couch in your sweatpants eating ice cream.

I wanna laugh with you and be goofy with you in public places so that people stare at us.

I wanna hold you in my arms as we watch the stars and think how small we are.

I wanna bring you soup when you’re sick and be that shoulder to lean on when your cat dies.

I wanna share my feelings with you.

I wanna hold you so tight I can’t let you go.

But first, I wanna find you.

-Boy"

I'm a 17 year old girl, and yes, I'm a sap sometimes. But this particular letter is what my friends and I want from our future boyfriends. I don't like elaborate dates or expensive dinners. I want to go to a zoo and feed animals, or I wanna go have a picnic in a quiet park. I don't mind if he got me a balloon instead of a bouquet of flowers! Roses are overrated, by the way. A single hand-picked flower is better than a store-bought bouquet of flowers... because it means that he really cares!

This generation is so obsessed with labels to the point where they forget that most of the time less is more. Simple > Elaborate. Natural sweetness > Planned romance.

I just wish boys would understand that it's more special if they do it themselves.

And I hope at least one boy will read this. And hopefully, share it? :]
